Minot, ND – As the Minotauros seventh season draws near it is time to start meeting the players heading to Minot for training camp.  Camp opens September 3rd and the pre-season opens on September 9th against the Bismarck Bobcats at the Maysa Arena.  We continue meeting the team with forward Peter Johnson.

Johnson comes to the Tauros from Fergus Falls High School in Minnesota.  Johnson played for high school seasons and posted 136 points in 113 games as a defenseman for the Otters.  He likes to “play a physical game in the corners and work my hardest to defend and block shots in the defensive zone but I am not afraid to jump up in the rush on offense.”  He added that he tries to emulate, “Jared Spurgeon, a puck moving defenseman for the MN Wild.”

Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Marty Murray certainly noticed the comparison, “.  His puck moving and skating ability are impressive, and I thought the more we watched him, the more he grew on us at camp.”

Johnson cited his relationship with Tauros’ Assistant General Manager Chris Lonke as a reason he came to Minot, he was scouting me throughout last year and he was always willing to talk and was a great connection to the Minotauros.  Also I have heard great things about the coaching staff and past Minotauro teams.”

Lonke explained that is was not just the lofty point totals that have him excited about what Johnson can do as a Tauro, “Peter is an athlete, a three sport athlete that was named Senior athlete of the year. I’m very to excited to see how he develops when he is just focused on hockey.”  As for what Lonke saw in Johnson’s game that he already likes he said, “He plays a very strong two-way game and makes a very good first pass.”

Johnson and the rest of the Tauros reported to training camp this evening.  Tomorrow’s practice from 1:00-2:15 is open to the public for free.  At the end of practice, the winner of the former Tauro captain Jake Dittel autographed game winning jersey will be announced.  Download Dash at www.dashapp.io for your chance to win that and other Tauros memorabilia all season long!

Come back tomorrow when we will meet Spencer Kimball.  Do not miss your chance to see Johnson and all of the Tauros in game action for the first time September 9th at 7:35 at the Maysa Arena when the Bismarck Bobcats come to Minot to open the pre-season.
