Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros are proud to announce that alum Merrick Madsen has signed an entry level contract with the National Hockey League’s Arizona Coyotes.  Madsen becomes the first Tauro to sign with an NHL team.

Now 22 years-old Madsen has spent the last four seasons backstopping the Harvard Crimson.  As a Tauro Madsen posted a 10-16-0 record including 1 shutout on a .904 SV% and 2.75 GAA.  At Harvard Madsen flourished, finishing third all-time in school history with 56 wins to go with a 2.12 GAA and .924 SV% and 10 shutouts in 91 games.  Madsen led the Crimson to two ECAC Championships (2015 & 2017) and was named the ECAC Tournament MVP in 2017.  Madsen also served as the team Captain this season, a rare honor for a goaltender.

In a press release, Arizona Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka said “Merrick is a big, skilled, athletic goaltender.  We’re pleased with his development and excited to have him signed.”

Madsen was originally a sixth round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers but was traded in a multi-player deal to Arizona last June.
