Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros added another piece this week ahead of a weekend set with the Bismarck Bobcats as defenseman Briggs Orr joins the team from the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Calgary Hitmen.

The Denver native was taken 34th overall in the 2020 WHL US Prospect Draft and played 17 games last season in the Canadian Major Junior league.  The blue liner posted a goal and four assists with the Hitmen including two assists in his final three games as a 16-year-old.  After being released by Calgary Orr said he came to Minot because, “a lot of people I know have been here and said good things.  I also talked with Cody on the phone and he said everything I want to hear.  Minot checks all the boxes.”

Now 17, Orr joins the Tauros in a recruiting win for Head Coach/General Manager Cody Campbell who said, “Briggs is a very talented young prospect. You have to look no further than to the fact that he played 17 games in the WHL as a 16-year-old. He will add another presence to our D corps with his physical play and a heavy shot from the point. We look forward to playing a role in his development path this season and to him helping our group continue to compete night in and night out.”

Orr arrived in Minot on Sunday and has skated in two practices with the team.  His first impression, “it’s a fun place so far with a good environment and team, hard work but it is fun.”

See Orr and the rest of the Tauros this Friday on the Pepsi Rink at Maysa Arena against the Bismarck Bobcats.  Tickets are available by clicking here or through the “Tickets” tab atop this page.
