Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros are proud to announce that Captain Weston Knox has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Wisconsin. Knox becomes the second Tauro to play for the Badgers after Ben Garrity.
For Knox committing to Wisconsin is a dream come true, “the history of Wisconsin hockey, I have watched a ton of Badger games growing up and dreamt of going to a program like that someday!” He added that the present state of the program played just as much of a role in his decision, “the coaching staff has had success everywhere they have been, they’re a group that focuses on culture like Cody [Campbell] does here.”
Minotauros Head Coach Cody Campbell was equally excited for Knox, “Weston is extremely deserving of this opportunity. He has added so much to our program over his two years in Minot and now he will be able to go compete at a high profile program with incredible resources around him.”
Aside from hockey Knox was drawn to Wisconsin for reasons both inside and outside of the classroom; “the education is fantastic, I plan to study education and history, and would like to eventually end up teaching high school and coaching.” As for what he might coach, that shed some light on Wisconsin’s extracurricular appeal to Knox, “I am a huge football fan, knowing the place has many other sports that are as successful and entertaining to watching is extremely exciting to me.”
Once on the ice Campbell says “the Badgers are getting a player that is a fierce competitor that highly values winning. They are also getting one of the most thoughtful and likable kids I have coached, those traits will be seen at the rink but also amongst the campus community in Madison.”
As for what his time in Minot means to him Knox said, “it means everything! It has been the greatest two years in Minot and can definitely say from the owner, the coaches, to the front office everyday they all made sure I was getting the best chances to get this opportunity; and players I have played with made junior hockey the most memorable years of my life.” He continued “I want to thank Cody and everyone in Minot down to the fans who make this experience so great and help us love to play hockey.” Finally, Knox said coming to Minot and being a Tauro, “truly makes us believe opportunities like this can happen.”
Aside from Minot and the Minotauros organization Knox was thankful for the support he has received throughout his hockey career, “my family of course has been my biggest supporters. All of the coaches that I’ve had, I could not have come close to this without them.”
Knox and the rest of the Tauros continue their quest to the Robertson Cup this weekend in Bismarck. The Tauros hold a 2-0 lead in the best of five Central Division Finals.
