Apr 19, 2022

Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros are proud to announce that Assistant Coach and Director of Scouting Darren Banks has accepted the position of Head Coach and General Manager of the NA3HL’s New Mexico Ice Wolves for their inaugural season in 2022-23.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to coach the New Mexico Ice Wolves NA3HL team and help develop players and the organization,” said Banks. “I look forward to building on the winning culture that has been established by the New Mexico Ice Wolves NAHL team and using my coaching and recruiting experience to add to the ladder of development for hockey in New Mexico.”

Banks believes this step in his career would not have been possible without his time in Minot, “First off, I would like to thank Brad Porter for the opportunity to come to Minot and to be part of this organization over these last two years. I also would like to thank all of the incredible people and staff I worked with during my time. Cody and [Shane] Wagner for everything they have done for me as well. I am excited to take the next step in my coaching journey with New Mexico. Minot is truly a special place, I am humbled and honored to have called it home over the last year.”

Banks had been a scout for one season before being promoted to his now former role last summer.  Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Cody Campbell had nothing but praise for Banks. “We are happy for Darren and wish him well in his new position. Darren made a large impact on our hockey team daily through his diligent work and commitment to our players. His finger prints will also be on future Tauros rosters as he has done a great job for us in the scouting and recruiting department. We wish him nothing but the best in New Mexico.”

With the Tauros season over the search for Banks’s replacement begins immediately. Stay tuned to gotauros.com and the Tauros socials for updates on the Tauros coaching staff and all other news through the offseason.
