Minot, ND – The Minotauros returned to the Maysa Arena for just the second time this season and 1300 fans packed into the rink to welcome them home.  The Tauros got off to a strong start in front of the home fans, but the game would eventually require a shootout before sending the packed Maysa crowd home happy.

Newly named captain, Jon Lizotte opened the scoring for the Tauros when his slap shot beat Jake Kielly at the 6:58 mark of the first.  The 1-0 lead held for the Tauros until the middle of the second period when Jake Howie was able solve Kielly to double the Tauros lead.  Less than a minute later however Luke Forfar scored for the Bruins; it was their first goal against Atte Tolvanen and the Tauros in 89:49 of hockey this season.  Brady Jones then drew the Bruins even with a shot that trickled through after Tolvanen got a piece of it with his glove.

The 2-2 score would hold through the remained or regulation.  The Tauros carried play through the final period limiting Austin to just two shots on goal but could not get another puck past Kielly.  After an uneventful overtime in which the Tauros failed to convert a power play the game headed into a shootout.  Tolvanen stopped all five Austin attempts and the Tauros fourth shooter Chase Springman scored on a beautiful backhand move to get the Tauros the win and improve their record to 7-3-1.

Next Up: The Tauros stay in North Dakota for the next two weeks.  First on Tuesday the Tauros and Bismarck Bobcats will meet in Dickinson, ND for an exhibition game.  Then the Tauros will return to the Maysa Arena to host the Brookings Blizzard next Friday and Saturday nights.  After that the Tauros will head to Bismarck on Thursday, October 30th to play for real for the first time this season.  The Tauros will close out the month of October by hosting the Aberdeen Wings for a two game series starting on Halloween; that weekend the Tauros will be wearing special hunting themed jerseys in anticipation of the start of deer season.  The game worn jerseys will be available for auction on November 1st after the game against Aberdeen.  Tickets for all Minotauros home games are available in advance online by clicking on the “tickets” tab atop this page.  Buy online and print at home to avoid the lines on game night.
