Blizzard of Goals

Oct 28, 2018

The Tauros returned to the Brookings for the second time this season and the results were similar to their last visit.  The Tauros swept their first visit to Brookings by a combined 13-0 score, this time the two victories came by a combined 12-4 margin.

Friday night (full box) the Blizzard struck first just 15 seconds into the game when Shane Hathaway converted a turnover at the side of the Tauros net.  Andrew Kangas answered back 48 seconds later and Keenan Lund followed up with a goal on the rush 1:38 later to give the Tauros a 2-1 lead just 2:41 into the game.  That score would hold until early in the third period when the Tauros pulled away in grand fashion.  Nick Strom scored his second of the season 3:22 into the final period to start the Tauros offensive explosion.   The Tauros added four more over the next 8:01 getting goals from Fritz Belisle, David Raisanen, Joseph Harguindeguy, and Justin Kelley.  Defensemen Lincoln Erne and Spencer Kimball added two assists each as the Tauros piled on.  The Blizzard got a late goal from Gabe Whal to bump the final to 7-2.

Saturday night (full box) the Tauros opened the scoring when Kyle Oleksiuk netted his second of the season.  John Kaljian drew the Blizzard even off of a defensive zone turnover 1:20 into the second but Raisanen scored his second of the weekend in the middle portion of the period to restore the Tauros lead.  Just as the night before the Tauros took a 2-1 lead into the third period and then exploded on offense.  By the 14:25 mark of the final period the Tauros had opened a 5-1 lead thanks a goal from Taylor Lantz goal followed by a pair of goals from Didrik Henbrant.  Also just like they had the night before the Blizzard popped in a garbage time goal to make the final a slightly more respectable 5-2.

Next up for the Tauros is a home set with the first place Austin Bruins.  The Bruins hold a three point lead on the Tauros which means a weekend sweep would move the Tauros into the division’s top spot.  Tickets for the weekend’s game are available here or through the “Tickets” tab atop this page.
