Immonen Commits

Minot, ND – The Minotauros are proud to announce that forward Ville Immonen has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Union College.   Immonen becomes the Minotauros 53rd NCAA DI commit and 96th overall NCAA hockey commitment.

Immonen is currently second on the team with 11 points (5g 6a) through 12 games played.  Having played his entire career in his native Finland prior to this season the adjustment to the North American style of play has not been as difficult as the forward anticipated.  The big forward credits Minot for that, “Being a Tauro has been extremely helpful. With such great teammates and coaches I have been able to adjust my game to North American rinks faster than I thought.”

Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Marty Murray agreed that Immonen is transitioning well and expects even more from the Union commit, “Ville has been impressive so far this year. He is a legitimate first line center in our league and I believe he will continue to develop as he adjusts to the North American style.”  Murray believe the reasons for his success in the NAHL will be the reasons Immonen will continue to succeed in college, “He plays a strong 200′ game and he does all the little things well that don’t necessarily show up on the scoresheet.”

Immonen sited several reasons for committing to Union, “during my visit I got the feeling that Im really wanted there and all the coaches and players were really nice and helpful. They told me that its their goal to win a national championship during the next 4 years. Also their campus is really cool and facilities for hockey are next level.”  While there Immonen wants “to become a sports journalist,” though he also intends to study economics.

Upon committing Immonen also wanted to credit those who helped him achieve his goal, “I want to thank my family and all the coaches and teammates I have had along the years.”

Immonen and the Tauros are back in action this weekend against the Aberdeen Wings before returning to the Maysa Arena on Monday to host those same Wings.   Tickets for Monday’s game are available through the “Tickets” tab atop this page.
