It took until the final game of the regular season but the top-seeded Tauros finally know who they will face in the opening round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs. The Austin Bruins’ loss to St. Cloud coupled with the Aberdeen Wings defeating the North Iowa Bulls means the Tauros will take on the Bruins while the Wings jump to the third seed and take on the Bismarck Bobcats in the other Central Division Semi-Final.
The Tauros were 9-3-0 against Austin this season on their way to capturing the Central Division regular season crown. This will be the seventh playoff series between the two teams and second consecutive year they meet in the postseason. The Bruins won the first four series in consecutive years from 2013-2016. After a postseason without a matchup the Tauros finally got the better of the Bruins in 2018 when they swept the Bruins to win the Central Cup and advance to the Robertson Cup Final Four. The teams then would not meet again in the post-season until last year when the then top seeded Bruins swept the Tauros on their way to a Central Cup.
Now with the roles reversed the Tauros are looking to avenge last years playoff loss and make a run to the Robertson Cup. The series opens with Game 1, this Friday, April 19th on the Pepsi Rink at Maysa Arena with Game 2 following on Saturday (full schedule below).
