Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros are proud to announce that Dean Schwenninger has committed to play NCAA DI hockey at Stonehill College.  Schwenninger becomes the first Minotauro to head to Stonehill as they make the transition to NCAA DI this season.

Schwenninger played just one season in Minot, his final year of junior eligibility.  He finished second on the team in scoring posting 36 points in 50 games on 11 goals and 25 assists.  He also represented the Tauros at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament where he had an assist for Team Central.

Schwenninger cited the “beautiful campus” and “friendly environment” as factors for choosing Stonehill but what excites him most is “playing for the programs first year of Division 1 is an exciting challenge that I really wanted to take on. Also I felt like they really wanted me to come there, which is always an important part.”  Aside from hockey the chance to further his education was a big factor in choosing to come to North America in the first place for Schwenninger and now that he has reached that goal he is “planning to study business” at Stonehill.

Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Cody Campbell was excited for Schwenninger, “We are thrilled for Dean and his family. He is going to have a fantastic opportunity to be apart of the first Division 1 class at Stonehill and receive a fantastic education in the process. He will bring dynamic skill and a phenomenal attitude to the Skyhawks program as they take steps forward as an NCAA D1 program.”

Schwenninger credits his time in Minot with helping him reach his goal, “the Tauros gave me the chance to succeed from day one and always believed in me. I will forever be thankful for the time I had in Minot.”  He continued, “I would like to thank the whole Tauro organization and all the people who helped me along the way!”

Schwenninger will report to Stonehill this fall to begin his NCAA DI career.  The Tauros will return to Minot on August 20th.  Your first chance to see the Tauros will be at the 10th Annual Tauros Golf Tournament on August 26th.  Then there will be a free to the pubic intersquad scrimmage on Saturday August 27th on the West Rink.  Then the Tauros kick off the preseason on the Pepsi Rink against the Helena BigHorns on September 2nd and 3rd.
