Tauros 20 Questions: #1 Jon Flakne

As the season approaches we will be giving you a chance to meet the new Tauros as well as learn a little more about the returning players by asking them 20 questions.  We will be going in number order, so to kick off the series meet Jon Flakne, and come back tomorrow to hear from Johnny Walker.

Jon Flakne’s name should sound familiar to many Tauro fans as he skated with the team briefly last season as an affiliate player before signing a tender for this season.  In his one game of action he stopped all 19 shots he faced to shut out the Brookings Blizzard on March 19th in Brookings.  With both Atte Tolvanen and Tanner Holmes moving on Flakne will compete for the starting job right away.

Aside from his one game with the Tauros last season Flakne starred for Orono High School in Minnesota posting a .919 SV% and 2.27 GAA along with 4 shutouts.  It may not look it after Tauros fans have cheered for Tyler Parks (6’6”) and Merrick Madsen (6’4”) but Flakne is a big goaltender at 6’2” and 195 lbs.  His size does not appear to hinder his athletic ability as he made three different post-to-post saves on odd man rushes in his shutout of Brookings.

From the Coaches Office: “Jon is a very technical goaltender who covers a lot of net and stays square to the puck.  He is very poised between the pipes and his rebound control is very good.  Jon pushes himself everyday to get better, and we see him as a guy that will challenge for big minutes this season.” – Marty Murray
