The Tauros used the first of two second round draft picks (36th overall) on the high scoring Owen Larson. Last season playing high school hockey in Minnesota for the Academy of Holy Angels, Larson posted 37 goals and 15 assists in 25 games. The big numbers he put up in his senior season came after two solid campaigns the previous two school years. He had 19 goals and 23 assists in 50 games combined between his sophomore and junior seasons.
At 5’11” and 165 lbs. Larson will not be the biggest Tauro, but certainly will not be pushed around either. A 1997 birth year player Larson has three years of eligibility remaining. With scoring numbers like he posted in high school it is easy to see that Larson is a talented player. Coming out of the pre-draft camp the Tauros coaching staff had him ranked in their top group and were thrilled to be able to nab him in the second round.
From the Coach’s Office: Owen participated in our pre draft camp in late May, and we made him a priority on our draft board. When you talk about our team identity, Owen seems to have it all. He skates very well, has a strong compete level, and has a very good scoring touch. Even though he'll be a rookie to our league, we are optimistic that he'll be a very good player for us. – Head Coach Marty Murray
