Tauros 20 Questions: Colton Berg

Sep 9, 2016

Minot, ND – As the 2016/17 NAHL season draws near we are giving Tauros fans a chance to meet all of the new members of the club as well as learn a little more about the returning Tauros.  We will play 20 questions with a different Tauro every day from now until the NAHL Showcase going in number order, today we catch up with veteran defenseman #21 Colton Berg.

Berg enters his second season in Minot looking to gain a solid spot in the line-up.  As a rookie he posted 4 goals and 8 assists in 32 games and carried a +6 rating.  There is no doubt he will be among the most dangerous defensemen in the NAHL in the offensive zone as he showed during his best run posting 8 points in 6 games from March 12th to April 1st last season posting 3 goals and 5 assists.  However, he followed that run up with three consecutive pointless games with a -1 rating to end the year.  If Berg can find the consistency that often comes of second year players he could be one of the best defensemen in the league.

From the Coaches’ Office: Colton was good for us down the stretch last year and solidified himself as a top 6 defenseman.  With a full year under his belt, we hope he can take it to another level.  He’s a smooth skater and has an offensive upside, which allows him to be effective in joining the rush.  Going into his 20-year-old season, he needs to understand when to pick his spots to be up ice, and with the experience he gained last season, hopefully that will be the case. – Marty Murray
