Minot, ND – As the 2016/17 NAHL season draws near we are giving Tauros fans a chance to meet all of the new members of the club as well as learn a little more about the returning Tauros. We will play 20 questions with a different Tauro every day from now until the NAHL Showcase going in number order, today we catch up with veteran forward #7 Derek Frentz.
Frentz finished with the third most points as a Tauro last season with 38, on 17 goals and 21 assists. He became one of the Tauros most dynamic players down the stretch finishing points in 10 of the final 14 games of the season including a 9 game point streak from February 21st to March 19th. A dependable two-way player Frentz also only took only one penalty all season, a high stick against Aberdeen on February 6th. Frentz made the kind of jump coaches look for from their first to second year in the NAHL after posting 23 points for the Michigan Warriors the year before joining the Tauros, if he makes a similar leap this year he will be one of the elite players in the league.
From the Coaches’ Office: Derek is now entering his third season in the NAHL. He took some huge steps last season and in the last half of the season, was probably our most consistent scorer. Derek is a great locker room guy, a versatile player, and we look for him to be part of our leadership group this season as well. He was a very good player in our league last season, and we want him to take it to another level this year. If that’s the case, I see no reason why he can’t play D1 hockey.
