Minot, ND – The Minotauros are proud to announce that defenseman Weston Knox has become the ninth member of the Tauros tender call for the 2022-23 season. Knox played for his hometown Andover High School in Minnesota and served as captain of the Minnesota State Championship winning Huskies this season. Andover High School is also the school that produced the only Tauro to top 100 career points, Christian Mohs.
In 31 games this season Knox posted six goals and 25 assists for Andover to lead their defense corps and finish third overall on the team. Aside from winning a Minnesota State Championship, which Knox described as, “the single greatest weekend of my life;” his performance this season earned him a spot on the MN State All-Tournament Team, the 2022 Herb Brooks Award, a commitment to NCAA DI Air Force, and a ranking by NHL Central Scouting (218).
Obviously a player with that type of resume had plenty of suitors but Knox said he chose Minot because it, “truly felt like the best spot for me, I’ve heard so many great things about the place.” He added that, “one of my best buddies Brasen Boser and his family lives in Minot.”
Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Cody Campbell was thrilled to come out on top in the race to sign Knox. Campbell explained: “Weston is a strong and smooth, 2 way D that has the ability to start transition and produce offense, he also possesses the ability to shut down his opponents top players. Weston has earned a ton of accolades of late and we couldn’t be happier to have won the recruiting battle for him. We look forward to helping Weston transition to junior hockey and prepare for his career at the Air Force Academy.”
Knox agrees with Campbell’s assessment saying, “I see myself as a defenseman that will protect the net at all cost but will sneak in offense then and there.” Of course, with 66 points in 70 high school games “then and there” is probably a bit modest.
