Tune Up

Mar 27, 2014

The Minotauros have little to play for this weekend while they await word on where they will be headed next weekend for the first round of the playoffs.  A few players however are within striking distance of some individual milestones.  With two goals Jake McCann can set a new high mark for goals in a season by a Minotauro,   Captain Tim Donohue is two points away from 50 on his Tauro career and Jadin Martin is four points away from 75.  Both Brandon Wildung (2.44 gaa) and Merrick Madsen (2.70 gaa) will top Tyler Parks’ 2.77 gaa from last season and Wildung has a chance to set the franchise mark for save percentage as his .918 is just ahead of Park’s .917.

While individual records are good, and a sign that the Tauros are improving, the main focus this weekend is getting ready for the playoffs.  The Tauros will be the fourth seed and nothing that happens this weekend will change that.  As the fourth seed they will play the division winner, which is currently the Austin Bruins who hold a one point lead on the Aberdeen Wings.  Austin is in Bismarck this weekend while the Wings are in Wenatchee.

Tauros players were split on who they would like to see in the first round, with several players pointing both to Austin’s home record of 26-4-0 and Aberdeen’s recent 13-1-1 run as reasons they would prefer the other.  Either way, the Tauros know they will open the 2014 Robertson Cup Playoffs on the road, and that they will need to be playing well when they do so, which is why playing well on the road is all they will be focused on this weekend.
