Veterans Day Showdown

Nov 10, 2019

Minot, ND – Fresh off a pair of games in Aberdeen this weekend the Tauros and Wings will lock horns again tonight on the Pepsi Rink at Maysa Arena as the main event of the Tauros annual Veterans Day home game.   The first 1,000 fans with military ID will get in for free as the Tauros look to move ahead of the defending Robertson Cup champs in the standings.  The Tauros were one bad period away from a weekend sweep of the Wings in Aberdeen and look to take the rubber match of the weekend set.

The Tauros offense has been led by Nik Armstrong-Kingkade who has yet to be held off the scoresheet in back to back games this season.  His 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists are on pace for 68 points and 38 goals both of which would be new Tauro records.  Jay Buchholz had a goal and two assists this weekend while Cole O’Connell and Kyler Kleven each had a goal and an assist to lead the Tauro offense this weekend.  After coming on in relief and stopping 14 of 15 on Friday night, A.J. Ruskowski made his second start as a Tauro and stopped 30 of 32 to improve his record to 2-0-0.

Riley Murphy led the Wings on the weekend with a goal and two helpers.  Wings leading scorer Natan Vertes had a goal and an assist as did Jake Beaune, Hustin Karpman, and Cade Neilson.  In goal both former Tauro Jake Sibell and Henry Welsch surrendered three goals to the Tauros.

After tonight’s game the schedule stays busy for the Tauros who head to Cloquet, MN, to take on the MN Wilderness Friday and Saturday nights.  The Wilderness currently sit in second place in the Central, four points ahead of the Tauros.   After that the Tauros will get an off weekend to catch their breath before another three-game in four-night stretch surrounding Thanksgiving.
