Westlund Named Tauros 10th Captain

Oct 20, 2020

Minot, ND – The Minot Minotauros have named Jack Westlund the 10th captain in team history.  Westlund will be assisted by Kaiden Scott who like Westlund has already been wearing an “A” this season and Damon Zimmer.

Westlund is in his second season as a Tauro, last season he posted eight goals and 18 assists in 45 games; he has an assist in one game thus far this season before missing time with an injury.  Prior to his time with the Tauros Westlund played for Alexandria High School in Alexandria, MN and after the high school season the NA3HL’s Alexandria Blizzard.  He posted 121 points in 95 high school games and 16 points in 27 NA3HL games.

Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Shane Wagner said “I am excited to announce that Jack was going to be our captain this year.  Going into the season we always knew that Jack had the potential to be one of the captains, and with Marty taking our captain with him to Sioux Falls, we knew Jack would be the right man for the job.”

While not entirely surprised by the announcement Westlund still said, “it’s an honor, I’m proud to be selected by these guys and the coaches to lead these guys, it will be a fun year.”  Westlund plans to “try to lead by example, every day in and out, working hard.  Trying to have guys see me working and they’ll want to do the same; just push guys to be the best they can.”

Wagner believes Westlund is up to the challenge, “Jack brings a competitive edge to games and practices and will make sure to hold his teammates accountable.”  Wagner also pointed out that he will have help from the rest of the leadership group, “Waz and I are excited to have Jack as our 2020-21 Captain, as well as Kaiden Scott and Damon Zimmer as our “A”s.  All 3 are junior players with experience that want to win.”

Scott is a longtime NAHL veteran with 123 games under his belt playing 26 combined games for Springfield and Austin three seasons ago before settling in Topeka where he played 92 games over the last two years.  He’s posted 32 career points including three already this season.

Zimmer meanwhile is also a long time junior veteran playing 145 games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Okotoks Oilers, Sprice Grove Saints, and Camrose Kodiaks.  Zimmer posted 73 points in the those games on 26 goals and 47 assists; he has four goals through four games already as a Tauro.

Westlund, Scott, and Zimmer return to the ice this weekend as the Tauros host the St. Cloud Norsemen.  Tickets are still available through the “Tickets” tab atop this page or by clicking here.
